Moving Walls In Manhattan Apartment

When Michael K Chen Architecture gave a little 390-square-foot apartment in Manhattan a makeover, they created a micro housing masterpiece.

Situated in a 1920’s Co-Op building in Gramercy Park, they managed to achieve a clean, functional; highly-proficient studio that is essentially robotic.

Unbelievably, the apartment has a queen-sized bed, living area, dining area for four, plenty of storage, and yet still has room for entertaining.

However, the highlight has to be the use of mechanized moving walls to form different areas, maximize space and flow easily from daytime to nighttime room requirements.

The wall can moves across the apartment floor to create a dressing zone with built in storage.

At the walls full extension, there is space for a Queen size bed that folds down from the wall.

The television can rotate 180 degrees to be visible from the living area and the bedroom. The sliding element holds and hides the entire apartment’s audio wiring.

During the day the bedroom is returned to a functional living zone, complete with Library display shelving cabinetry and a full sized sofa.

New LED lighting was added throughout the apartment were updated as well to allow them more space and storage.
