The piece consists of a simple rounded polyethylene bench that is sculpted in an abstract design, but when rotated, the underside reveals an inbuilt compartment perfect for planting flowers and other plants.
A small hole in the base of the planter provides integrated drainage.
A good example of multifunctional furniture.
OFFI created this piece with an uplifting atmosphere in mind, writing that the design
“articulates the product’s function in its form and expresses a fun approach to everyday objects.”
“Otto” is designed to be used in conjunction with its sister piece, the Mod Lounger, which is a similarly sculpted piece created from polyethylene that can be used in a cosy outdoor relaxation space or by the pool.
The designer, Lisa Albin, is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, and is known in New York City for her fresh, playful and all-ages approach to residential designs.
Her love of children and experience as a painter have led her to create a number of fun-focused colourful designs, of which “Otto” is just one.
“Otto” is available in six colours – orange, blue, green, red, white and black – and has entered mass production, meaning it is no longer made only to order.
