With her ‘Secret Desk’, Polish designer Magdalena Tekieli has brought Art Deco style and sophistication into the 21st century.
The piece, inspired by the appearance of an accordion, looks at first glance to be a regular, if old-fashioned, office desk, with a basic wood, leather and metal frame, complete with small wooden drawers on the top.
When a small handle on the right of the desk is turned, however, the drawers descend into the accordion-style compartment that expands underneath.
This unique addition makes it possible to hide all sorts of secret documents and treasured stationery in plain sight, without having to resort to locks and bulky roll top desks.
Although the vintage colours make reference to days gone by, Tekieli’s Secret Desk adds a touch of modernity with its precise forms.
A minimalist piece of furniture for modern interiors but also for small living spaces.
The fine-cut wood used in the drawers, for example, is a modern take on old-fashioned desktop drawers.

While the central feature of the piece is the accordion compartment, this piece stands alone as a respectable example of a modern take on Art Deco concepts. For more info visit Magdalena Tekieli.
