When Till Könneker, a young design graduate from Berlin, Germany, rented a studio apartment in Bern, Switzerland, he did not know what to do with all his possessions.
There simply wasn’t enough storage space to hold his vinyl records, books, shoes – not to mention clothes.
Putting his skills to work, Könneker set about designing a set of ‘Living Cubes’ that “combine eight to twelve different pieces of furniture into one very small footprint.”
His multifunctional storage pieces feature near full-size wardrobe, a shoe rack, minibar, work area, bookshelves, and room for a 42” television.
The side of the Living Cube opens up to reveal even more room for storage, with a ‘New Room’ inside.
This additional space can be used as a quiet office or even a chill-out zone with sufficient room for a small desk or beanbags.
Best of all, the Living Cube features a ladder and loft large enough to fit a queen size bed.
The Cube features a minimalist design, with its black wood panelling helping it to blend in to the background in any small space, so as to not give away the occupant’s space-saving intentions to visitors.
Those with extra cash to spare can even commission Könneker to design a Living Cube of their own specifications, shipped anywhere in Europe or the United States from the factory in Switzerland.
Living Cubes are available now through Könneker’s own design lab, with miniature, urban (full-size) and wall (interior ‘New Room’ removed) versions currently in production.
